Tomorrow Poland will be playing their Quarter-Final match at the Stade Velodrome. Ellie and Chloe decided to find out a little bit more about this stadium.

The Stade Velodrome was built to serve as a playing venue for the 1938 world cup. Soon after it became the new home of Olympique de Marseille because the Stade de Huveaune had become too small for the club. During the World Cup, Stade Velodrome hosted four first round group matches, a round of 16 match,a quarter -final, and the semi-final between Brazil and Holland (1-1).

Poland vs Swiss

Our class were so pleased with the results of Saturday’s game against Switzerland at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard in Saint-Etienne.
Here is Class 3CR’s match report.
Błaszczykowski scored a great goal in the 39th minute for Poland. Switzerland were close in scoring after a free kick which was screaming into the top corner until Fabianski made a colossal save. In the second half Shaqiri equalised in the 83rd minute with a spectacular overhead strike from the edge of the box. This forced the game into extra time which resulted in no additional goals. After that it went to penalties. It was 2-2 until Switzerland had an unfortunate miss which allowed Poland to win with their final goals. Well done Poland, you’re in the Quarter-Finals!
Cameron – Lewandowski scored a cracking penalty!
Thomas – Milik almost missed penalty. Sommer got his hands to it, but he was unlucky and it toppled into the goal.
